Expensive Makeup I will NOT Repurchase

Happy Hump Day! Hope everyone is breezing through the week and ready for a 3-day weekend!! I definitely could not be more excited!

With a holiday weekend, usually means LOTS of sales in stores and I take full advantage of this. I usually wait to buy pricier items during these sales so I can stock up! With that being said, I came up with a list of a few high-end items that I have recently purchased and will not be repurchasing. I wanted to give you guys the heads up in case you were thinking of splurging on these.

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 7.43.01 PMFarsáli Unicorn Essence Antioxidant Primer Serum ($22)- So this serum, I purchase because I’ve seen the gorgeous, Farah Dhukai use it as a face moisturizer/ primer and it always looks so hydrating on her skin.  For me, it just did not work. I feel like it dries quickly and does nothing to help my skin stay hydrated. It also did not help my makeup last longer. The only positive thing I could say, is it smells really sweet and delicious. I much prefer other products from Farsáli over this one. If you’re looking for a super hydrating serum, try their Rose Gold Elixir.

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 7.50.35 PMFirst Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration ($30)- I originally bought this as a face moisturizer as it says it can be used for the face & elsewhere but I stopped using it because I found it was too thick to apply during the day and not moisturizing enough for at night. I’m not crazy about the smell- it almost smells like Noxema (old school product) for anyone who know what that smells like. Then I heard that its great for Eczema which I suffer pretty badly from in the winter and I put this stuff on it and I it did nothing to relieve my itching- as a matter of fact, I think it made it worse.

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 7.24.19 PMFENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer ($32)- I’m sure a lot of people would disagree with me but this product did not hold up to the standards I had expected. I tend to have oily skin and this did absolutely nothing to stop the oil from coming through under my foundation even though it says it fights shine. In addition, this claims to be a “pore diffusing” primer and I honestly feel like it did nothing to hide my pores. Sometimes I’m able to wear primers on their own for days when I don’t want to wear any makeup and this didn’t smooth my skin. It’s also supposed to make your makeup last longer but again, did not hold up any longer than if I was not wearing a primer.

Screen Shot 2018-07-30 at 7.48.02 PMHourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder ($46)- I have been dying to try this setting powder because I heard so many bloggers raving about it. I purchased it as an under-eye setting powder but unfortunately, it immediately creases into my fine lines under my eyes before I even leave the house! This was the sole purpose I bought this powder and it did not hold up to the standards I had for it. I will say that as a face setting powder, I actually really like it. It keeps the oil and shine under control but there are so many other face powders that are less expensive and equally as good.

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 7.54.51 PMUrban Decay All Nighter Foundation ($40)- I usually love full-coverage foundations and this one is definitely full-coverage but I found it to be very heavy on my skin and not easy to blend. Also, not sure if it was the color I chose but by the end of the day, it would oxidize so bad and make my skin color look yellow. Definitely, not a good look. Also, did not look too great in photos. I feel like it made my face look washed out. I almost want to give it another try in a different shade only because I’ve heard such great things about it but there are many other high-end foundations I would rather spend my money on. It’s a shame because I am a really big fan of Urban Decay- thought for sure I would love this.

Screen Shot 2018-08-29 at 8.06.57 PMDose of Colors x iluvsarahii Highlighter ($28)- I bought this highlighter a few weeks ago and was super excited to try. It swatched so beautifully in-store and I know iluvsarahii does not come to play when it comes to glowing. I love the color, I love the packaging but I don’t love how it applies on my skin. I find it to be too patchy and highlights the flaws on my skin rather than my cheekbones. I still wear it only because the color pay-off is stunning and it looks great in photos but I’m slightly disappointed with this formula and how it looks in person. I have several other highlighters I would much prefer.

Anyway dolls, hope this post was helpful for anyone looking to splurge on these products. Keep in mind that what works for me may not be the case for you but I can only try to help in your decision if you have similar skin features to me. Happy LDW!

Sephora Haul | November 11, 2017

IMG_2949_Fotor

Hi guys! So sorry it’s been almost a month since I’ve blogged. I had my sisters wedding two weeks ago so there was a lot of last minute running around with that and I was on/off sick last week- tis the season I guess ;/ I’m back now!

Anyway, this weekend I managed to escape all of the craziness from this past month and head over to the mall to pick-up a few things from the greatest place in the world…Sephora!!! Just wanted to share what I picked up this time. As usual, I walked in there with a need for one thing and ended up with more than just one item LOL. I always get suckered in at that store but this is a judge-free zone and we all love makeup!

1. Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation ($43.00)- One of my oldies but goodies. This is my go-to foundation. For a little while I was testing out new foundations and so far none of them compare to this one. The #1 reason I always get this foundation is because the color range is great for matching different skin tones. My skin tone changes drastically from summer to winter and no other foundations match me without having to mix two different ones. Also, my skin tends to get a little drier in the winter and this foundation stays matte without over-drying. For reference, I got mine in the color, Golden Beige (R410).

2. Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Lipstick ($21.00)- I have been dying to try this lipstick! I love everything from Too Faced because all of their items smell delicious and I’ve been wanting to check out their lip products. I also love the fact it has a matte finish- I love wearing mattes especially in the fall & winter months. I got mine in the color, Doll Face and OMG all I can say is that this might be my new favorite nude lipstick. It’s so creamy and not too drying on the lips but gives the perfect shade of matte nude- I just can’t say enough good things about it. The packaging is also super adorable and unique.

3. Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer ($31.00)- This is another repurchase of mine. Again, I have been trying to research new primers to use but this one might be current fave. I was trying out the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer but I wasn’t too crazy about it. The Benefit one is much better at concealing large pores and giving your foundation a nice, smooth canvas to apply on.

4. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream ($30.00)- As I’ve previously mentioned, my intentions of going into Sephora this trip was for one thing and that was a new moisturizer. I’ve heard great things about First Aid Beauty but have never tried their moisturizer. I’ve been using the Bliss Fabulous Drench N Quench Moisturizer and unfortunately, I realized that it was making me break out. I don’t normally have sensitive skin but I’ve been on the hunt for a daily moisturizer that works really well and doesn’t make my skin react poorly. I’m really excited to try this one out. I’ll keep you posted on how it works out for me.

5. Murad Brightening effects Beauty Insider Reward (500 Points)- Last but not least! What is more fun than getting to the register and being offered a free gift just for being a member at Sephora? Well I’ve been saving my VIB points and finally decided to cash in on this beautiful little set. It’s the Murad Brightening Effects collection. It comes with sample sizes of the Murad Essential-C Cleanser, Rapid Resurfacing Peel, City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer, Eye Lift Firming™ Treatment & Pads. I got a facial a few weeks ago from Massage Envy and they used all Murad products on me and I absolutely LOVED the way they made my skin look and feel. I’m excited to try additional products from their collection and see what all the hype is about. I really want to start getting into a better skincare regimen and I think this collection is the perfect way to start!

That concludes my little Sephora haul. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted on any new products I bought to see if they’re worth repurchasing. In the meantime, I hope you guys have a wonderful week ahead and I’ll talk to you soon! Xo
